What is “depersonalizing my space” and what is the benefit?
As Home Staging Professionals, we encourage sellers to detach themselves from the property. Their home is now a product that they are selling. SELLERS - A house is NOT a home. Your home is NOT for sale, but your HOUSE is. When Staging a Home, we depersonalize the space so that buyers can envision their belongings in the space. We tell clients to start packing early and begin to envision themselves in their new space.
Depersonalizing a space means removing the majority of the homeowner’s personal preferences or memorabilia. Potential buyers cannot envision themselves living in your home if it looks like someone is already there. Stagers know how to remove anything that gets in the way of buyers seeing the nice features of the home as well as add the items that suggest the desired lifestyle you wish to highlight (i.e., setting a table with elegant dishes and stemware).

Is Home Staging similar to Redesign?
Staging is for the benefit of selling a home and not for actual living. For example, a television might be removed from a room because it visually looks better. Or in many cases, furniture is pared down to just the essentials so potential buyers can imagine their own furniture and style in the home and not be distracted by the furniture already in place. Family pictures and personal photos are taken down so the potential buyer can start picturing their own family living there. ReDesign is good for clients wanting to update their homes for their own enjoyment, not for selling.
